SUMMARY

Under direction from the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), the Manager, Enterprise Risk and Project Management will be responsible for the leadership, innovation, governance, and management necessary to identify, evaluate, mitigate, and monitor the company’s risk and compliance. The Manager, Enterprise Risk and Project Management will oversee all aspects of enterprise risk management, and will develop and implement identified and anticipated risk strategies while ensuring internal controls are appropriate and within industry standards.

Project Management will be a key component of this position. The successful incumbent will work closely with leaders to provide project management, coordination communication and control functions for implementing and monitoring strategic programs post completion.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

ENTERPRISE RISK MANAGEMENT & COMPLIANCE

  • Monitors and updates the Credit Union’s Enterprise Risk Management framework and Business Continuity Plan (BCP). Provides regular reporting evidencing the effectiveness of the ERM and BCP plans and initiates action items related to the plans.
  • As requested by the CEO, provide input in matters concerning the interpretation, application and implementation of policies, standards and best practices.
  • Ensure that best practice and compliance is achieved and enforced in the areas of anti-money laundering and fraud management
  • Designated Privacy Officer and Chief Anti-Money Laundering Officer
  • Oversee Fintrac regulations to compliance ensuring that member and product risk ratings are regularly monitored and reviewed via Verafin software.
  • Primary Central 1 security contact - Maintains security list with Central 1, Central 1 Master Bond and Corporate Protection Program and Professional Liability Insurance Program Renewal
  • Review various banking system reports i.e. EM Supervisor reports to ensure overrides are conducted within delegated limits.
  • Contributing member of the Executive Credit Committee gaining required experience and exposure to this high risk area.
  • Responsible for risk-based assessment of all new products/services and risk mitigation strategies
  • Responsible for annual audits for FATCA and CRS reporting and compliance
  • Responsible for CASL (Canadian Anti-Spam Legislation) compliance program and policy.
  • Annual Processing of Equity dividends and annual balancing of member T5
  • Prepare and oversee reports for registered products annual audits and provide overrides as required
  • Streamline processes through technology and identifying redundant procedures
  • Ensure that all processes are documented

PROJECT MANAGEMENT

  • Works closely with the Corporate Team to provide project management, coordination, communication and control functions for implementing successful strategic projects or programs
  • Manages detailed and cross-organization project plans for review and finalization by Executive Leadership Team.
  • Identifies and closes information gaps on the project plans by proactively pursuing details from key stakeholders within the team.
  • Collaborates with project work stream leads to resolve issues and remove roadblocks to ensure success.
  • Leads team resources through all phases of project from concept to implementation, and ensuring deliverables are completed within scope, on-time and on-budget.
  • Facilitates status meetings - coordinates, books, distributes materials, drafts meeting agenda and minutes and updates project documentation.
  • Reviews and provides input to reports and presentations to the executive, board and other stakeholder groups.
  • Track, report and communicate project status effectively by identifying key activities, deliverables, risk mitigation and issues resolution.
  • Develops draft project budgets. Documents all budget assumptions for future validation.
  • Develops and manages project budget, controlling costs and reporting on expenditures at key intervals

PROCEDURAL GATEKEEPER & TECHNICAL TRAINER

  • Responsible for research, writing, implementation and safe keeping of branch procedures. This would incorporate any and all procedures required in the branch environment and would reflect Fintrac requirements and best practices.
  • Conduct informative training sessions to all staff on products, services, procedures and the banking system as required to promote company efficiency and risk mitigation.

LEADERSHIP & STAFF DEVELOPMENT:

  • Manage, lead and provide direction to the Member Service Associate
  • Establish performance standards, evaluate and manage performance of staff through conducting staff appraisals, regular employee coaching sessions and if necessary, progressive discipline
  • Take a leadership role in creating an environment of continuous improvement by sharing best practices to all staff.
  • Adhere to service standards as they pertain to the position
  • Enthusiastically participate in various internal committees, community involvement and image building of the Credit Union.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in a supervisory/management function in a financial institution (preferably a credit union)
  • Diploma or degree from recognized post-secondary institute or equivalent;
  • Professional certification in project management
  • Enterprise Risk management experience
  • Proficiency in DNA banking system and Lodestar is necessary.
  • Experience in both commercial and retail banking.
  • Proficient in AML, Terrorist Financing, Privacy and FATCA legislation and the enforcement thereof.
  • Strong proficiency in advanced Excel and PowerPoint
