Business Analyst (BA) - JOB DESCRIPTION

For established company 30 minutes north of the GTA that has been delivering innovative core banking software to international financial institutions for over 35 years.

The selected candidate(s) will:

  • Work with developers, project managers and clients to assess, research, analyze and document business, user, and systems requirements
  • Recommend solutions that meet sponsor/stakeholder needs

The individual should have a good understanding of:

  • Retail banking operations with expanded knowledge & experience specific to retail lending
  • BA methodology, best practices, able to apply these skills to achieve “best in class” product functionality.

The ideal candidate is:

  • Detail oriented with great listening skills
  • Able to translate end user needs into comprehensive technical and functional requirements for development resources
  • A highly motivated team player with a proven ability to build and maintain effective relationships with business partners, project stakeholders, and team members
  • Experienced in the fast-paced financial software and services industry with consumer lending experience
  • Experienced in configuring other banking software such as DNA

Applicants should ideally have their own vehicle but public transit is available near our offices.


  • Lead requirement gathering workshops resulting in identifying and documenting detailed user, and business requirements and recommend solutions
  • Develop future product enhancement requirements based on input gathered from a variety of sources including research and analysis of competition, best practices in the industry, and feedback from the user community
  • Recommend business solutions that satisfy sponsor/ stakeholder needs continually exploring and assessing options for value-add for clients
  • Create user and business requirement documents, business process maps, work flow diagrams, and wire frames for software features and/or supported business processes
  • Lead and launch new product features and services both inside and outside the company on executing ‘best in class’ product implementations
  • Transfer Knowledge of the business requirements to the technical team
  • Assist with testing of the system functionality by developing test conditions, and test scenarios based on the user requirements
  • Assist in creating adequate end-user manuals and training documentation
  • Participate in the review of project deliverables for completeness, quality, and compliance with established project standards
  • Complete the assigned deliverables and tasks within the established project timelines
  • Assist the project manager with project deliverables and coordination


  • Post-secondary degree in business, commerce or related IT discipline
  • 3 years Business Analyst experience within the Financial Services Industry or minimum 3 years of experience providing technical support for a financial application within the Financial Services sector
  • Experience with the lending process and/or experience implementing, training or supporting lending software
  • Highly Proficient with business analysis tools such as Microsoft Visio and Excel, etc.
  • Proven ability to build and maintain effective relationships with business partners, project stakeholders, and team members
  • Strong written and spoken communication and collaboration skills
  • Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision and have a positive attitude
  • Comfortable developing project deliverables in all phases of the project through dialogue with clients, development team and other stakeholders
  • Comfortable leading or facilitating small to large meetings and conducting information gathering sessions
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills including influencing, negotiating and consulting
  • Demonstrated in-depth knowledge of business analysis methodology
  • Ability to gather, analyze, document and validate the needs of project stakeholders
  • Ability to develop and provide clear requirements documents, and be well versed in writing functional specifications
  • Proven ability to communicate technical information clearly to users with various levels of knowledge of technology
  • Proven track record in creating Business and user requirement documents, Test Cases, and business process diagrams
  • Solid understanding and/or experience with Project Management methodology is an asset
  • Working knowledge of scripting languages such as SQL is an asset
