The bigger picture

Delivering world-class member service requires a data infrastructure and data solutions continuously evolve. As one of our Data Engineers, you will be responsible for creating and improving an optimal data architecture. You will work collaboratively with stakeholders across the organization to support their individual data and analytics needs, and assist with data-related technical issues or opportunities that may arise. In addition, you will ensure that all systems meet the organizational business requirements and best industry practices.

The daily duties

You will be responsible for development and maintenance of highly scalable data management solutions that ingest and integrate large volumes of data both structured and unstructured from a variety of different sources. Reporting to the Manager, Data Development, you will help build the infrastructure required for optimal extraction, transformation, and loading of data from a wide variety of data sources using SQL and cloud platform technologies. Your skills will allow you to implement predictive or prescriptive analytics models in an operational setting at scale. You will also be responsible for creating reusable and operational data tools for team members and analysts across the organization, helping them to optimize service to our valued members. You will be responsible for researching opportunities for data acquisition and new uses for existing data, create custom software components and analytics applications, and recommend ways to improve data reliability, efficiency and quality. This position is a collaborative one; you will be required to work with Analytics Studio team members in order to reach individual project goals. You will also provide ongoing support to team members and provide them with the developmental and technical guidance required to enhance their knowledge, help them grow, and support their ongoing personal development.

 The experience you bring

  • 5 years’ work experience in data engineering, data development, or BI development role
  • Experience building and optimizing data pipelines, architectures, and data sets
  • Experience performing root cause analysis on internal and external data and processes to answer specific business questions and identify opportunities for improvement
  • A successful history of manipulating, processing, and extracting value from large disconnected datasets
  • Exposure to big data and cloud technologies is preferred
  • General experience in financial services, insurance, or retail industries is an asset
  • Today we are primarily a Microsoft BI development team but we’ll expand or change when we have to
