The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) will strategically lead all aspects of the credit union finance, treasury and accounting functions, while promoting an engaging culture. Drive the credit union’s financial results for profitability and asset liability management to drive performance. Advise the CEO with respect to financial reporting/planning, innovative best practices, financial stability, calculated risk, liquidity and strategic growth

Essential Duties

• Participates actively at the senior management level and Board of Director level in the development and implementation of strategic plans by providing technical advice and consultative support in areas relating to financial performance management.
• Responsible for preparation of monthly and annual financial statements and reports identifying any areas of financial concern regarding the Credit Union.
• Responsible for reporting to DICO, FSCO, CUCO and Revenue Canada.
• Co-ordinates preparation of budgets and the financial forecasts for Credit Union.
• Responsible for external investments and borrowings.
• Monitors the matching of assets and liabilities, interest rate risk and liquidity and providing recommendation for improving the Credit Union position.
• Develops and recommends changes to policies and procedures in the areas of administration and accounting and financial management.
• Ensures the safe keeping of records to meet the requirements of outside regulatory bodies and ensures that a systematic process is in place for their retention and disposal.
• Develops, recommends, and audits internal financial controls and procedures to minimize risk exposure.
• Supervises the accounting staff.
• Participates in the hiring of personnel in the areas of accounting, financial planning and other positions as required.
• Ensures proper accounting practices are followed by all branches through internal inspections.
• Reviews accounting areas (general performance) and makes changes where applicable.
• Responsible for statistical reports; long term plans, DICO reports, expenses, monthly reports/comparisons.
• Liaisons with Board Committees as assigned;
• Risk Management – prepare internal controls, implement procedures and monitor performance.


• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience
• Accounting designation required
• Minimum five years’ experience in financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting and financial analysis
• Experience in a credit union environment a strong asset
• Must have experience managing and leading a team
• Past experience on a senior management team 
• Advanced proficiency with Excel, Word and Power point
• Excellent planning, budgeting and organizational skills
• Excellent report writing, verbal and written communication skills
• Professional positive attitude 
• Problem-solving capabilities and excellent time management skills
• Strong people skills in working and developing relationships with stakeholders, staff and members.
• Sound analytical thinking, planning, prioritization and execution skills and strategic leadership ability.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive and proprietary information
