Job Description

Basic Function
The Product Manager is responsible for developing Central 1’s payments products and coordinating development, maintenance and support for the suite of products.

Primary Accountabilities:  
Consistent with our mission to provide Credit Unions with the critical scale economies that can be accessed cost effectively by working together, Central 1 delivers cutting-edge payment solutions. The incumbent will lead the development, maintenance and support of payments solutions.

Specific Accountabilities:

  • Own and develop the product suite including managing business cases, identifying value propositions, and defining client experience
  • Innovate and actively seek opportunities to enhance and develop payments products
  • Develop product requirements and roadmaps for a range of digital payments products that have considerable revenue and profitability potential
  • Monitor the execution of development projects, provide progress reports to stakeholders and ensure appropriate levels of quality for the success of the product  
  • Act as a liaison between business and technical teams for driving product development and delivery in an agile environment in order to advance existing products, and launch new features and products
  • Conduct market research and provide market segment, product positioning, industry and competitive analyses, and specify market requirements and pricing for products
  • Provide leadership to cross organizational/functional work teams involved in product design and development

Additional responsibilities of the role may include:

  • Assist with recruitment, training and development of personnel associated with the development, maintenance and delivery of the payments products
  • Manage any 3rd party vendor relationships
  • Perform other duties as required to deliver exceptional service and to support Central 1’s strategic and business goals


  • A university degree in computer science, finance, business administration, or other related discipline with an IT or Business focus, and a minimum of 5-10 years progressively more responsible software and/or finance, data and product management experience
  • Business product, operations or project management experience implementing new payment products, solutions and/or redesigning processes
  • Background in digital payments or an understanding of the payment environment, platforms and products. Knowledge of relevant regulatory and payment network rules is an asset
  • Specific experience with Wire Transfers and Foreign Exchange products is an asset
  • Knowledge of product development and product management principles, methodologies, tools and techniques. Familiarity with agile methodology is an asset
  • Experience working in a financial institution, regulatory body or public practice is considered an asset
  • Ability to think strategically, conceptually and analytically and define the product vision for a variety of products of significant scope, complexity and revenue potential
  • Ability to establish annual business plans and manage budgets
  • Proven success in setting clear direction and expectations, keeping team members focused on the right priorities, building excellent team relationships and fostering a sense of urgency and dedication to delivering on commitments 
  • Proven success in working on multidisciplinary projects (e.g. product development, regulatory, risk, information security, corporate IT infrastructure etc)
  • Exceptional analytical, problem solving, planning, organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively and strategically both orally and in writing with clients, technical teams and other co-workers
  • Ability to work to schedules and adapt easily to changing priorities and business needs
  • Highly developed business acumen
  • Client driven with a focus on providing an exceptional client experience
