EVP Human Resources

The EVP, Human Resources is a key member of the executive leadership team at Affinity, responsible for leading the development and execution of strategic HR initiatives and programs in building and maintaining a high performing culture, an engaged workforce and ensuring top talent is available to support the achievement of the credit union’s vision and business strategy. 

This role works closely with other senior leaders across the organization in overseeing the implementation of business strategies, policies, programs and guidelines that enable the delivery of innovative and functional services in support of a remarkable member experience.

The role is accountable for building and maintaining a strong talent pipeline across Affinity and ensuring talent needs today and into the future will be met by equipping employees with the skills and behaviours necessary to work with members in new and evolving ways.   This position is responsible for ensuring a positive employee experience and a competitive total rewards program. 

The role will work closely with other senior leaders in order to ensure transparent and respectful people practices support Affinity’s strong employee value proposition and enhance and leverage its brand.



The EVP HR is responsible for providing leadership to a team of 26 people including the following direct reports: 
  • Talent Development Manager
  • Employee Services Manager
  • Total Rewards Manager



  • Working cross-functionally and collaborating with the executive leadership team to ensure alignment in purpose and effort in communicating, promoting and implementing enterprise-wide strategies and priorities.
  • Actively contributing to strategy development and implementation, and acting as a key leadership liaison to various committees and effectively managing relevant relationships with the Board for the Human Resources function.
  • Translating the vision for Affinity, through clear, effective and regular communication both cross-functionally and with the Human Resources team.
  • Leading by example in visibly demonstrating Affinity’s values and culture and living Affinity’s brand within the community.
  • Holding the Human Resources team accountable for cross-functional collaboration by ensuring a member-centric approach within the team and alignment to organizational priorities; and empowering team by appropriately delegating responsibilities, accountabilities, and decision-making to ensure active execution.
  • Working closely with other leaders in designing, developing and implementing plans to continually align employees to Affinity’s strategy and desired organizational culture.
  • Ensuring appropriate decision-making and empowerment is embedded in employees’ roles, while ensuring market competitive compensation and rewards to effectively attract, retain and motivate high performing employees.
  • Ensuring effective workforce management practices are in place to ensure Affinity has the right skills, at the right place, and at the right time to deliver on the strategic direction.
  • Overseeing the attraction, development, engagement and retention of top talent dedicated to serving the needs of our members.
  • Overseeing the leadership excellence program to ensure our leaders are empowered, accountable and equipped with the right skills to inspire, coach and engage our employees in the overall achievement of Affinity’s goals.
  • Ensuring expert advice on people and labour relations is provided to key stakeholders.
  • Serves to advance the well-being of real people and their communities while deepening current member relationships and/or recruiting new members. Actively seeks to connect with current and potential members out in the community.



A Bachelor’s Degree in a related field. 

Minimum of 8 years’ experience in senior HR leadership roles.
CPHR, or other recognized designation, or equivalent education and/or experience. 

Previous experience leading an organization’s people strategy including organizational development, culture development, and talent management.

Demonstrated alignment with the values of Affinity.
